MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Northeast monsoon and easterlies will bring about rains to many parts of the country on Friday, January 24, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said in an early morning report that Batanes, Northern Luzon, and Central Luzon will experience slightly overcast skies and light rain showers due to the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan.

He also said that in Metro Manila and the rest of Southern Luzon, expect cloudy and sometimes partly cloudy skies with only a chance of scattered showers, lightning, and thunder especially in the areas of Quezon, the mountains of Marinduque, Bicol region, and Oriental Mindoro due to the easterlies.

The easterlies will likewise affect parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

As for the rest of Visayas, Estareja said cloudy skies will prevail most of Thursday despite chances of scattered rains and thunderstorms.

鈥淪a Palawan, asahan ang minsang pag-uulan lalo na sa may central and southern portions dulot ng easterlies habang dito sa Visayas, uulanin ang Northern and Eastern Samar, kalat-kalat na ulan and thunderstorms lalo na sa tanghali at sa hapon dulot din po ng silanganin,鈥 he expalined.

Pagasa did not raise any gale warning over any seaboards of the country due to a weakened northeast monsoon although the state meteorologist predicted that thunderstorms may bring about up to 2.5 meters of waves.
