Most Filipinos pick UP as PH's best university

MANILA, Philippines — Majority of adult Filipinos chose the University of the Philippines (UP) as the best university in the country, according to the non-commissioned polling of Octa Research.

In its Tugon ng Masa nationwide survey, Octa Research asked 1,200 male and female respondents aged 18 and above what they think is the best university in the Philippines.

Seventy-one percent of the respondents answered UP; 15 percent picked De La Salle University, and 14 percent selected Ateneo de Manila University.

Seventy-eight percent of those who answered UP were from Mindanao, while the highest percentage of adult Filipinos who answered De La Salle University was from Visayas at 19 percent, and the highest percentage of respondents who answered Atende de Manila University was from Metro Manila at 17 percent.

“The majority of adult Filipinos across all regions believe that UP is the best in the Philippines, except in Negros Island Region, where only 37 percent believe it is the best. Meanwhile, more than 90 percent of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Davao Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula believe this to be true,” said Octa. Research.

Many of the Negros Island Region respondents picked De La Salle University as the best school in the country.

“Regarding age groups, adult Filipinos regard UP as the best university in the Philippines, ranging from 62 percent to 79 percent. The highest percentage is among those aged 55 to 64, while the lowest is among those aged 18 to 24,” the polling group noted.

“Interestingly, among those aged 18 to 24, [at least] 26 percent believe that De La Salle University is the best university,” it added.

Octa. Research said its survey was conducted from November 10 to 16, 2024, using face-to-face interviews, and has a ±3% margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level.
