MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – A 254-lineal meter flood structure worth P28.9 million in Barangay Namaltugan benefits four villages in Sudipen town, La Union following its completion on Dec. 14 last year.
The flood control project was started on April 30 last year and funded under the national budget for 2024.
It will mitigate floods in the villages of Namaltugan, Old Central, Ilcano and Ipet in Sudipen, La Union during disasters and rainy season, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza.
“The scope of work includes the installation of six-meter-long steel sheet piles, construction of a capping beam, embankment works and slope protection,” she told Philippine Agency.
“Spanning 254 lineal meters, the dike will strengthen the riverbank and prevent land erosion, ensuring the surrounding area remains stable and secure,” she noted.
Tinaza said the structure has been completed to protect the communities from the rising waters of the Amburayan River.
The project is part of DPWH’s commitment to building disaster-resilient communities in La Union.
