Quezon City launches bold 30-day cancer care initiative

MANILA, Philippines – In a landmark move to enhance cancer care for its citizens, the Quezon City government, in collaboration with the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS), has launched the innovative “ACT NOW: 30-Day Screening to Treatment” program.
This initiative is aimed at drastically improving access to cancer screening and treatment by streamlining all cancer-related interventions within one month.
The program was officially inaugurated by Mayor Joy Belmonte as part of the city’s observance of World Cancer Day 2025, alongside notable figures in public health, including PCS President Dr. Corazon Ngelangel and Dr. Jan Aura Llevado, Chief of the Department of Health’s Cancer Control Division.
“Cancer is not just a health threat; it’s a profound economic and emotional burden on families. Early detection is crucial,” said Mayor Belmonte during the launch.
“With our new programs in place, we can mitigate its devastating effects on our community’s lives and livelihoods.”

Designated community leaders known as ACT NOW Cancer Control Ambassadors for Hope will champion early detection efforts and facilitate access to resources through a communal support network.
This robust community engagement is a continuation of efforts initiated in 2023, particularly within Barangay Commonwealth, where an integrated online portal streamlined the process for women at risk of breast cancer, allowing rapid assessments and timely referrals.

“Our mission is to create a country fully prepared to tackle the cancer challenge. With united efforts, we can educate our citizens about the disease and its threats,” emphasized the PCS.
“Together, we can ACT NOW and build a stronger foundation for cancer control and care in our communities.”
In recognition of World Cancer Day, the QC Pylon in Quezon Memorial Circle will be illuminate in purple from February 1 to 7, a visual commitment to raising awareness and solidarity against cancer.
As Quezon City ramps up its cancer-fighting strategies, the hope is to not only curb the disease but also to inspire a nationwide movement towards collaborative healthcare solutions.
