Sen. Poe on proposed Edsa fee: Fix it first

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Grace Poe on Wednesday urged concerned agencies to fix the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) first before implementing the proposed fees for motorists passing the thoroughfare.
In a statement, Poe said mass transportation should offer a seamless and comfortable ride to commuters to encourage vehicle owners to leave their cars at home.
Poe was reacting to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla’s pronouncement that drivers of four-wheeled vehicles in Metro Manila may eventually have to pay a fee to use Edsa, believing this will encourage vehicle owners to try public transportation.

According to Poe, there is also a need to ensure that secondary streets that will be used as alternative routes for those who will not use Edsa are cleared of obstructions.
Article continues after this advertisement“Public consultation is indispensable to gather the views of the population who would be affected by the restrictions,” she said.
“Without these measures in place, the planned Edsa road pricing will only exacerbate the hardships faced by motorists who endure traffic, high fuel prices, and inflation,” she added.
