MANILA, Philippines — It seems Vice President Sara Duterte was living in a multiverse all this time if she insists that life was better during the time of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, La Union 1st District Rep. Paolo Ortega V said on Friday.
In a statement, Ortega said Duterte is painting a “false narrative” when she said that life was better during the past administration, and that things took a turn under incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to the lawmaker, the economy has been recovering under Marcos, while the past administration suffered from mismanagement — resulting into huge loans, a poor pandemic response, and rampant extrajudicial killings in the drug war.
(It seems VP Sara is living in a different dimension. At what instance during her father’s administration were Filipino lives better? Under the administration of President Marcos, the economy became better, inflation went down, and Filipinos continue to support the government despite global challenges.)
(Our question to VP Sara is: Are Filipino lives better when the government is deep in debt, when there is pandemic mismanagement, and extrajudicial killings are rampant? Is it better for the culture of fear, corruption, and incompetence to continue?)
Ortega said he feels that Duterte’s claims only intend to push discussions away from the House of Representatives’ decision to impeach her, and the looming trials at the Senate.
(The truth is, maybe she just wants to move away from the issue of her impeachment and the anomalies regarding fund use. But whatever twists and turns they make, the data and the evidence that shows the true state of the country cannot change.)
During her press briefing earlier, Duterte uttered the words “God save the Philippines”, while adding that she is not happy with the state of the country as people are suffering from poverty and high prices of goods.
However, Ortega said that Duterte may have been “detached from reality” as the current administration has made significant strides in different aspects.
“Instead of living in a fictional multi-verse, she should step into the real world and contribute to nation-building under the leadership of President Marcos,” he noted.
Duterte appeared to be in high spirits despite the House’s decision to impeach her last Wednesday. According to the Vice President, losing a partner is more painful than being impeached.

However, some of Ortega’s fellow lawmakers believe these statements from Duterte shows how low her regard for public service is.
