CIDG seizes P2-M worth of cigarettes without health warning labels

MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized in Davao cigarettes worth P2.175 million after the products were found without the graphic health warning labels mandated by law, the police announced on Friday.
Republic Act 10643 or the Graphic Health Warning Law requires photographic and textual warnings for cigarette or tobacco products.
The CIDG report said Davao City authorities confiscated 87 master cases of assorted brands of cigarettes in a buy-bust operation at a dry goods trading store on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities arrested the store owner, a Davao City resident and a Chinese national identified by the CIDG only as “Chen.”

Article continues after this advertisement“The CIDG operation is in compliance [with] the policy of the state to promote the right[s] and health of the people and instill health consciousness among them; and protect the consumers from trade malpractices and from substandard tobacco products,” the CIDG said in a statement.
