MANILA, Philippines — A minor phreatic eruption was recorded at Taal Volcano on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Monday.
In a bulletin, Phivolcs said the four-minute eruption generated a 2,100-meter plume that drifted westward. The volcano emitted 407 metric tons of sulfur dioxide during the same monitoring period.
Phivolcs also logged two volcanic earthquakes on Sunday, including a volcanic tremor that lasted 91 minutes.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest.
Under this alert level, steam-driven or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and the dangerous accumulation or release of volcanic gases remain possible, according to Phivolcs.
Entry into the Taal Volcano Island and flying any aircraft close to the volcano remain prohibited, it added.
