MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Interior Sec. Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday said he will be asking Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil to explain his use of the Edsa busway due to a supposed emergency meeting.
Remulla made the pronouncement during a Palace press conference where he admitted that he only just learned about the incident.
鈥淚t is news to me that it happened. I have to confirm with him then I will ask for an explanation as to what happened,鈥� said Remulla.
Marbil previously denied to explicitly admit that it was him who was caught traveling through the exclusive Edsa busway on Tuesday evening.

He then justified the incident as an 鈥渆mergency,鈥� which the PNP later said was related to an 鈥渙ngoing security operation.鈥�
According to Remulla, the 鈥渆mergency鈥� was related to police operations involving the 14-year-old who was kidnapped by a Chinese syndicate. However, Remulla clarified that he鈥漝id not give instructions to violate any traffic laws鈥� to get to the meeting.

Asked what his directives are to police officers regarding the use of the busway, Remulla said to simply avoid ever passing through the exclusive road.
鈥淚f I don鈥檛 use it, don鈥檛 use it鈥� not once did I ever use the busway,鈥� reminded Remulla.
鈥淲e have a firm agreement with the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) that there is a zero tolerance policy,鈥� he said.
