New DOTr office to fast-track public transport projects

A new office has been created by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to fast-track the completion of priority infrastructure projects aimed at making commuting more convenient.

In a statement on Thursday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that Dizon issued Department Order No. 2025-002 on Wednesday, establishing the Flagship Project Management Office (FPMO) in line with the directive of President Marcos “to speed up priority transport system infrastructure projects for physical connectivity and shorter travel time.”

Chaired by Dizon himself, the FPMO would direct the policies and ensure that DOTr allots its “maximum effort and resources” in connection with the implementation of priority infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs).

The FPMO will also oversee and monitor the status of IFPs which include the Metro Manila Subway Project, North-South Commuter Railway Project, Edsa Busway Project, Edsa Greenways Project, Cebu Bus Rapid Transit and Davao Public Transport Modernization Project.

Other projects may also be identified by Dizon as priority IFPs “as may be deemed necessary in the future.”

Deadlines to be set

“I will head this FPMO. I will closely monitor developments of each identified IFP, which are guided by very strict timelines. We want to impose deadlines so these projects will be completed faster,” the DOTr chief said.

As part of its functions, the FPMO will also coordinate with DOTr sectors and attached agencies, partner and implementing agencies, other departments and government offices on the implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of priority IFPs.

In addition, the new office will consolidate and mobilize DOTr resources to streamline and synchronize budgeting for and implementation of priority IFPs, among other responsibilities.
