LEGAZPI CITY — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced on Tuesday (March 4) that Pope Francis appointed Fr. Herman Abcede as the new bishop of Daet in Camarines Norte.
CBCP said Abcede, 59, who was ordained in 1996, will replace Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, who was transferred to the Archdiocese of Caceres in 2024.
The Diocese of Daet said in a Facebook post that the bishop-elect will be their fifth bishop, which covers the parishes in the province.
Abcede is a member of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus and the Community Superior at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Parañaque City.
CBCP said his recent assignments also include serving as judge for Ecclesiastical Court of First Instance of the Parañaque diocese.
He was born in Vinzons town in Camarines Norte and studied Philosophy from Rogationist Seminary Manila and Theology from Don Bosco School of Theology in Parañaque City.
He also obtained his Degree in Canonical Law from the Pontificia Università Lateranense in Rome.
