MANILA, Philippines — Most of the country will experience cloudy weather due to the shear line, the northeast monsoon and the easterlies on Saturday (March 8), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its morning forecast, the national weather agency said mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon and Camarines Norte will have cloudy skies with high chances of rain and thunderstorms due to the shear line.
“Itong mga pag-ulan na ito ay mga katamtaman at kung minsan ay mga malalakas na pag-ulan na maaaring magdulot ng mga pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa,” weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.
(These rains are moderate and sometimes strong downpours that may result in floods and landslides.)
The shear line is an area where cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) converge with warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).
Batanes and Babuyan Islands may likewise see cloudy skies with light rains on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon.
Also due to the amihan, Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Cagayan will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a possibility of light rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and the rest of Bicol Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies.
“Mainit na panahon pa rin yung mararanasan natin, lalong-lalo na sa tanghali,” Castañeda said.
(We will experience warm weather, most especially at noon.)
“[Bagamat] mababa yung tsansa (na), mayroon pa rin tayong posibilidad ng mga isolated na mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog dulot ito ng easterlies,” she also noted.
(Although the chances are low, there still is the possibility of isolated rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.)
The easterlies are also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan province and Caraga Region.
Meanwhile, the entirety of Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms also due to the easterlies.
Pagasa has not observed any low pressure areas or tropical cyclones within the country’s area of responsibility.

The state weather bureau also did not raise a gale warning over the country’s seaboards.
However, Pagasa did warn of moderate to rough sea conditions in the waters off Northern Luzon.
