TUBA, Benguet — A van crashed into a concrete barrier along Marcos Highway in Sitio Bintiway, Barangay Población in this town, leaving three dead and several injured early Sunday, March 9.
The Nissan NV350 van, driven by Berlin Sagad Lopez, 66, of Floridablanca town, Pampanga, was headed to La Union when it reportedly lost its brakes on a sharp curve at 4:40 a.m.
Investigators said the vehicle swerved, hit a concrete barrier, and stopped in the middle of the road.
Police identified the fatalities as Justine Nichole Fernandez Bungay, 22; Homer Lopez Lozano, 46; and Arlene Apilado Nanquil, 56.
Five passengers, who were seriously injured, are now in stable condition at Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
The driver is in police custody for investigation. INQ
