Dangerous heat index forecast in 3 areas on Thursday – Pagasa

Dangerous heat index in 3 areas on Thursday, March 13 - Pagasa MANILA, Philippines — The heat index in three areas of the country will reach “danger” levels on Thursday, March 13, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Heat index is defined as the  apparent temperature felt by the human body when factoring in humidity.

The heat index is forecast to soar to dangerous levels in Dagupan City, Pangasinan (45°C); Virac, Catanduanes (42°C) and Cotabato City, Maguindanao (42°C), the weather agency said in its forecast on Wednesday evening.

At the “danger” level between 42 and 51°C, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, with heat stroke probable with continued exposure.

Sixty three monitoring stations across the country were forecast to experience a heat indexe at the “extreme caution” level of between 33°C. and 41°C, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City (40°C) and the Science Garden in Quezon City (38°C).

The stations in Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet will see a “non-hazardous” heat index of 26°C, according to Pagasa.
