JW to commemorate Christ’s death anniversary on April 12
On April 12, more than nine million Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs) in 240 areas will gather at their place of worship, Kingdom Hall, and in various halls to observe their most sacred day — the Memorial of Jesus Christ’s death.
The day corresponds to Nisan 14 of the Jewish calendar. On that day, some 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ introduced the observance of the Lord’s Evening Meal, also known as the “Last Supper,” hours before his death, according to James Morales, spokesperson for JWs.
JWs gather annually on Nisan 14 to remember the death of Jesus following his instruction written in Luke 22:19, “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”
Last March 16, JWs, who are known for their door-to-door ministry, launched a month-long campaign to distribute invitations to their neighbors, friends and relatives who may come from different religious backgrounds, Morales said.
In the Philippines, more than 200,000 JW members across the country knocked on doors to invite people and to tell them the importance of honoring Christ’s sacrificial death.
On March 24, 2024, more than 21 million people attended the Memorial of Christ’s death although there are nine million JWs worldwide, said Morales. In the Philippines, 680,399 attended last year.
Morales said the annual observance of the Lord’s Evening Meal, which lasts for an hour, includes a Bible-based talk on the importance of Jesus’ death and how people will benefit from his sacrifice.
In the weekend of April 5 and 6, JWs will flock to their Kingdom Halls to listen to a 30-minute Bible discourse “Can Truth Be Found?”
