MANILA, Philippines — The National Police Commission (Napolcom) commended three police officers for protecting a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official from being mobbed during a protest rally by transport group Manibela.
Tensions rose at the rally on Wednesday when MMDA Special Operations Group Strike Force head Gabriel Go began asking protesters to move their vehicles, which he said were causing traffic congestion along Connecticut Street along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).
In a social media post on Saturday, Calinisan announced that the commission issued commendations for Police Maj. Joseph Robles, Master Sgt. Juan Paolo Del Mundo and Patrolman Jordan Gallardo for securing Go.
“Noong nakita ng ating mga pulis na nagdagsaan ang mga rallyista patungo sa Connecticut kung saan nakaparada ang kanilang mga jeep, at kung nasaan si Go, agad na sumugod at rumesponde ang ating Eastern Police District personnel to secure the area,” Calinisan said.
(When our police saw the rallyists flocking toward Connecticut where their jeeps were parked and where Go was, our Eastern Police District personnel immediately rushed there and responded to secure the area.)

“There, they saw Mr. Go in a heated exchange with the rallyists from Manibela. Agad nilang pinoteksyunan si Mr. Go para hindi siya mabugbog ng mga raliyista. Kung wala ang mga pulis natin doon, siguradong nakuyog at nabugbog si Go,” he added.
