MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to brace for a dangerous heat index of 44掳C on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Dagupan City has been in the danger heat index category since last week, except last Saturday, when it hit 41掳颁, which falls under the 鈥渆xtreme caution鈥� category (33掳颁 to 41掳颁). According to Pagasa鈥檚 latest bulletin, its highest heat index so far was 48掳C, which was recorded last Friday.

On Monday, the state weather bureau also revealed that its monitoring station in Virac in Catanduanes forecast a 42掳C heat index in its area.

A heat index between 42潞C and 51潞C falls under the danger category. The weather bureau said that 鈥渉eat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely鈥� and 鈥渉eatstroke is probable with continued exposure鈥� under this level.

Earlier, the Department of Health urged the public to stay hydrated and minimize outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to reduce the risk of heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses.
It also advised the public to wear loose and lightweight clothing to stay cool amid the scorching heat.
