Dagupan City to sizzle: Heat index seen to hit 46°C Friday

MANILA, Philippines—Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to brace for a dangerous heat index on Friday of 46°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

If this happens, Dagupan City will be in the danger heat index category for five consecutive days since Monday. According to Pagasa’s latest bulletin, the city hit 47°C on Thursday.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to reach the highest heat index on Friday at 46°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).If this happens, Dagupan City will hit the highest heat index for five consecutive days since Monday. The city hit 47°C on Thursday, based on Pagasa’s latest bulletin.

For Friday, the state weather service reported that its monitoring stations in General Santos City in South Cotabato forecast a 43°C heat index in its area, while the following stations forecast a 42°C heat index in their areas:

  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
  • Cubi Point, Subic Bay Olongapo City
  • Sangley Point, Cavite
  • Cuyo, Palawan

The seven might fall under the “danger” category or 42ºC to 51ºC. The weather bureau said, “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heatstroke is probable with continued exposure” under this level.
