MANILA, Philippines – As Manila Water announces its April desludging schedule for barangays in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal, the water concessionaire emphasizes the advantages of having septic tanks siphoned during the hotter months.

Servicing septic tanks during warmer weather enhances the efficiency of the siphoning process. The higher temperatures make sludge less viscous, facilitating easier pumping. Additionally, the improved conditions allow for better mobility for both customers and desludging personnel during the activities. Desludging also helps prevent overflows, which are more likely as water usage increases during the summer.

This April, Manila Water’s desludging trucks and services will be deployed in the following barangays: Santolan and Rosario in Pasig City; Tanyag and North Daang Hari in Taguig City; Burgos, San Isidro, San Jose, and San Rafael in Marikina City; Pasong Tamo and Alicia in Quezon City; Barangays 892 and 893 in the City of Manila; La Paz and Sta. Cruz in Makati City; Mayamot and San Jose in Antipolo City; Sto. Nino and San Pedro in Angono; and Balite in Montalban (Rodriguez).

“We invite our customers to take advantage of this service at no extra cost. By doing so, we contribute to community health and safeguard our waterways,” said Dittie Galang, Manila Water corporate communications department head.

Manila Water ensures that sludge from homes undergoes meticulous processing at its septage treatment plants before being released into waterways.

To expand its reach in desludging services, Manila Water has deployed two pilot portable desludgers. These agile desludgers can service homes on narrow streets where conventional desludging trucks cannot access.

Recently, Manila Water’s innovative portable desludger earned a patent from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. With this new equipment, the company enhances its sanitation efforts, particularly in hard-to-reach barangays, ensuring cleaner and healthier communities.
