Longer shift for Quezon City cops
Following the spate of crimes in Quezon City, a top police official has warned of sanctions against station commandeers should they fail to deter criminality in their areas of responsibility.
In a statement released by the office of Mayor Herbert Bautista, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent George Regis also announced a 12–hour shift for city policemen.
“They [station commander] will be sacked and will be answerable administratively if crimes in their area of responsibility become rampant,” Regis said.
Regis added, “From the present eight hours, all police personnel will perform their duty up to 12 hours daily as part of the QCPD effort against criminal elements.”
At the same time, Regis vowed “to use the full force of the law against all lawless elements who may attempt to stage more bank robberies and street crimes” as he ordered policemen to go out into the streets as a deterrent against crimes.—Nancy C. Carvajal
