Two children were killed while their mother suffered serious injuries after they were hit by a train as they were crossing a railroad track Sunday afternoon in Makati City.

Case investigator Senior Police Officer 3 Miguel Descalzo of the Makati police said that 1-year-old Jennabelle de la Cruz and her 2-year-old brother, Julius, were declared dead on arrival by doctors at Makati Medical Center where they were rushed for treatment.

The children’s mother, Luisa Glory, 21, remained under observation due to the seriousness of her injuries.

Descalzo said it was unlikely that the train operator would be held liable for the accident since the area is off limits to pedestrians.

Perimeter fences have also been set up near the tracks to keep the area free of illegal settlers.
