More relief aid to pour into Yolanda-battered Tacloban, says NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday more relief aid, equipment, and rescue personnel are on their way to Yolanda-hit Tacloban, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.

NDRRMC chairman Rene Almendras said all incoming flights carrying relief aid, equipment and personnel will have to land at the Cebu International Airport before deployment. Almendras said relief supplies that need to be repacked would be brought to Cebu while packed goods will be flown directly to Tacloban for immediate distribution among affected families.

Almendras said the US provided eight C-130 transport planes mainly for relief packages. Also, the C-130 of the Philippine Air Force carrying medical, rescue personnel, equipment and relief goods will fly directly to Tacloban.

Meanwhile, foreign aids should be coordinated with the Department of Foreign Affairs and it will endorse donations to NDRRMC which will deploy the relief supplies with assistance from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of Health (DOH), Almendras said.

All roads to and from Guiuan, Eastern, Samar are now passable, NDRRMC said.
