Councilor, 10 others nabbed

Abarangay councilor and a businessman were among eleven persons arrested in police operations over the weekend in Cebu and Bohol.

In Tagbilaran City, Gerald Quinga, a barangay councilor of Dimiao town in Bohol was arrested with Eduardo Enerio, 60, of Poblacion, Tagbilaran City and seven others for illegal gambling last Saturday.

Seized during the operation were hundreds of tally sheets, tip sheets, calculator, stapler, ballpen and other paraphernalia as well as P3,425 believed to be proceeds of illegal gambling.

The arrest was conducted by the PNP Regional Intelligence Division (RID).

RID deputy chief Supt. Rex Derilo identified the other suspects as Alain Petalcorin, 35, Rhoy Aliñabon, 36, Bernardito Jaspe, 37, Rey Gequillo, 31, Rogelio Borces, 49, Geronimo Perales, 45, and Celedonio Aliñabon Jr., 29.

A .45 pistol and .22 revolver, ammunition and a pack of shabu were also allegedly seized from Enerio. Petalcorin allegedly possessed a .9mm handgun and ammunition.

They were brought to the Police Regional Office 7 headquarters Saturday night and were brought back to Bohol yesterday for the filing of appropriate charges.

Enerio denied his involvement in the illegal swertres game.

On Sunday, the Provincial Intelligence Branch arrested a 21-year-old man in a buy bust operation in barangay Guinakot, Danao City.

The subject of the operation, Joseph Durano, eluded arrest but the police arrested his brother, Raffy Hermocillas.

Senior Insp. Leo Logrono said the brother were under surveillance for weeks after police received reports that the illegal drug trade in the area was rampant.

One policemen who posed as a buyer purchased a pack of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu from the brothers. It was Hermocillas who handed the pack to him.

Durano, who sensed the presence of the policemen, immediately fled leaving his younger brother.

Police said they recovered a small and a large pack of suspected shabu, and a .45 caliber firearm with seven bullets.

Police are in hot pursuit of Durano whose brother is in the Consolacion detention cell.

In Cebu City, Remegio Arcillas, 27, was arrested in a buy-bust operation Saturday evening in barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

Senior Insp. Eunil Avergonzado, head of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force, said most of Arcilla’s customers were motorcycle-for-hire and PUJ drivers.

Avergonzado said police conducted a buy-bust operation after drivers reported Arcilla’s illegal activities.

Arcilla admitted that he sells shabu but denied owning the packs of shabu seized from him.
