MANILA, Philippines鈥擳hunderstorm rains in the afternoon may continue until Saturday, the weather bureau said.
Weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said the pattern of isolated thunderstorms with heavy rains would continue to persist even as an oncoming typhoon is so far away that it would not affect any part of the Philippine landmass.
鈥淭hese rains, which usually fall over Metro Manila in the afternoon, would continue but further days would experience fair weather,鈥 Mendoza said.
He added that the country would experience fairer weather on Sunday and Monday with light rains the only one to spoil the sunshine.
Heavy rains, Mendoza said, are not expected on Sunday.
In the evening forecast of Pagasa, it said that Typhoon 鈥淧hanphone,鈥 which would be named 鈥淣eneng鈥 once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday afternoon, was located at 1,580 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.
鈥淧hanphone鈥 packs maximum winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gusts of 210 kph and tracking a west northwest path at a pace of 20 kph.
Mendoza said that 鈥淧hanphone鈥 would not make landfall and have an effect on any part of the landmass.
