Black Nazarene route to be assessed after Escolta fire

MANILA, Philippines–Manila Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday said officials will have to assess the fire damage on Escolta Street before they could push through with the Black Nazarene route in the area.
The Feast of the Black Nazarene on Friday is expected to draw thousands of devotees.
In a radio interview on dzBB, Moreno said building officials will check the affected area for the security of devotees.
Engineer Rogelio Legazpi, the local government building official, said protective scaffolding and catch platform will be put up as safety precautions after the fire.
Escolta Street was closed on Wednesday as fire razed portions of a building that was formerly occupied by the Universidad de Manila, then known as City College of Manila.
