Naia-bound motorists warned of heavy traffic due to expressway project

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has warned airport-bound motorists and passengers of heavy traffic starting Saturday, Feb. 13, due to the ongoing works for the second phase of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (Naia) Expressway project.

In advisory on Thursday, the DPWH said traffic build-up should be expected at Villamor Airbase section along Sales Road in Pasay City as civil works contractor DMCI started its test pitting activities from Pier 1 to 18 to connect the Naia Expressway Phase II project to the existing first phase.

The agency advised the public to plan their trips accordingly, come to the airport earlier than usual, and be prepared to take alternate routes.

“A traffic management plan which includes the use of 10th Street and 14th Street in Pasay City as alternate routes of motorists in going to Sales Interchange from Andrews Avenue was approved by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority,” the advisory read.

“Also, DPWH together with the concessionaire San Miguel Corporation (SMC) through its subsidiary Vertex Tollways Development and contractor DMCI have also requested the assistance of the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) , Skyway O & M Corporation, Pasay Traffic Bureau, Barangay 183 Pasay, and Villamor Airbase to help manage traffic especially at the rotunda of Domestic Road corner Andrews Avenue,” it added.

The P15.86-billion public-private partnership project aims to “provide easy access” to and from Naia’s three terminals and connect the Skyway and the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex).

The four-lane, 7.15-kilometer elevated expressway will also link the South Luzon Expressway to the Cavitex, Macapagal Boulevard and the Entertainment City of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation. CDG
