Senate subpoenas Faeldon anew to attend BOC ‘tara system’ inquiry

The Senate blue ribbon committee has again issued a subpoena against former Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon despite his insistence that he still would not attend the panel’s hearing into the controversial “tara system” in the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

This was confirmed by his counsel, lawyer Jose Diño, who said that the committee “required” Faeldon to attend the hearing on January 29.

“He will maintain, I think, his right to his personal dignity, specifically his right not to be browbeaten (again) with hopelessly un-provable and garbage allegations,” Diño said. In a text message to

Faeldon is still detained in a facility within the Senate compound after he was cited for contempt for refusing to attend the Senate hearings.

Nevertheless, President Rodrigo Duterte had recently appointed Faeldon as deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), which is under the supervision of the Department of National Defense (DND).

Aside from the hearing on the systematic corruption within the BOC, Faeldon is likewise being compelled to attend another hearing on the controversial P6.4 billion “shabu” shipment from China which went past the scrutiny of BOC under his watch.   /kga
