MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thursday said he “cannot dignify” speculations of a revamp in the Cabinet of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.
In an ambush interview in Pasay City, Bersamin was asked for confirmation on rumors that Department of Information and Communications Technology chief Ivan Uy and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez.
“Well, I do not know yet how true they are or if there is any basis. But usually, speculations are very — are always there,” he responded.
“We can’t really tell you unless or until it has already happened because, you know, we do not have compelling reasons. But speculations are ripe. So, we just cannot dignify speculations,” he added in a mix of English and Filipino.
Earlier in the day, Chavez confirmed with reporters that he will be on leave from February 17 to 21.
He assigned Senior Undersecretary Emerald Ridao as the officer-in-charge of the PCO while he was away.
On the same day, Vivencio “Vince” Bringas Dizon was named as the new secretary of the Department of Transportation, effective February 21.
He will replace Jaime Bautista, who resigned from his post due to health reasons.
