Elderly woman dies after Edsa tunnel fall

MANILA, Philippines — An elderly woman died after falling into the Edsa Cubao tunnel over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) shared photos showing the victim falling from the footbridge near the MRT-3’s Araneta Center-Cubao station.

“Amid the early morning haze of Sunday, March 2, emergency crews and authorities swiftly converged on a Cubao footbridge following the tragic fall of an unidentified elderly woman,” the Department of Transportation said in a statement.

The DOTr said authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage to piece together the final moments of the victim.

The elderly woman carried no identification, but a note was recovered from her.

“Investigators recovered a handwritten note suggesting personal struggles,” the agency said. (Keith Clores, trainee)
