MANILA, Philippines — Former television host and Cabinet secretary Oscar Orbos is the new head of state-run broadcast network People’s Television Network (PTV), Presidential Communications Office Secretary Jay Ruiz confirmed on Monday.
“We spoke with him last Saturday, and he agreed to temporarily be the officer-in-charge there as the GM (general manager),” Ruiz said in an ambush interview.
“So we are just preparing the papers and reviewing the legalities, but for now, he has agreed. He just said, ‘I won’t stay there for long,’ since former Secretary Oscar Orbos is already quite old. He said he would rather stay as chairman instead,” he added.
Orbos served as executive secretary and transportation and communications secretary under former President Corazon Aquino from 1990 to 1991.
According to Ruiz, some employees have “protested” hence the leadership change.
