5.4 magnitude earthquake jolts Davao del Sur
DAVAO CITY — A 5.4-magnitude earthquake, with an epicenter at 2 km southwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur, jolted this part of Southern Mindanao at 9:42 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The earthquake, which has a depth of focus of 10 kilometers, was reported at Intensity V in the towns of Matanao and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Intensity IV in Kidapawan City, Cotabato province; Malungon, Sarangani; Tampakan, and Tupi towns of South Cotabato; at Intensity III in Magpet, Cotabato; Davao City; General Santos City and Banga of South Cotabato; President Quirino and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat; Intensity II in Pikit, Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Oriental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Suralla, Norala, Santo Nino and T’Boli, South Cotabato; Lambayong and Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; and at Intensity I in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Kalamansig and Bagumbayan in Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin and that aftershocks were expected. INQ
