Classes in Zambales suspended as heat index reaches danger level
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) recorded a heat index of 42 degrees Celsius in Iba, the provincial capital, placing the province under the “danger” category on Friday, March 7. The extreme heat is expected to persist throughout the weekend.
In response, all 13 municipalities in the province issued separate advisories suspending in-person classes in all public and private schools across the province on Friday.
Local officials have also urged the public to take precautions, warning that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.
