Dagupan City continues to experience dangerous heat index category

MANILA, Philippines — Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to brace for a dangerous heat index of 44°C on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Dagupan City has been in the danger heat index category since last week, except last Saturday, when it hit 41°C, which falls under the “extreme caution” category (33°C to 41°C). According to Pagasa’s latest bulletin, its highest heat index so far was 48°C, which was recorded last Friday.

On Monday, the state weather bureau also revealed that its monitoring station in Virac in Catanduanes forecast a 42°C heat index in its area.

A heat index between 42ºC and 51ºC falls under the danger category. The weather bureau said that “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely” and “heatstroke is probable with continued exposure” under this level.
