Grass fire on Taal Volcano Island fizzles out — Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines — A grass fire observed on the island of Taal Volcano stopped on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In an advisory, Phivolcs said the grass fire fizzled out at around 5:20 a.m., 18 hours after it broke out, based on the feed from its volcano monitoring camera at its Agoncillo, Batangas observation station.

The fire was first detected at around 11:24 a.m. on Tuesday, affecting the Binintiang Munti (VTBM) observation station at the southwest portion of the island.
Asked what may have caused the fire, Phivolcs told ºÚÁÏÉç that based on past incidents of grass fires in the vicinity of the VTBM in 2023 and 2024, “kindling” was the cause.
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over Taal Volcano, barring entry to its Permanent Danger Zone, which encompasses the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures.
