MANILA, Philippines鈥�-The impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III might not get the support of the Nacionalista Party (NP), which is still in coalition with the administration,听Senator听Cynthia听Villar听said on听Wednesday.
Villar听is the wife听of NP president Manny听Villar听whom Aquino beat in the 2010 elections. The group has 25 members听in the House of Representatives and听six in the Senate, including听Mrs.听Villar.
鈥淚 don鈥檛听听听think the NP will support (the impeachment complaints),鈥澨齅rs.听Villar听told reporters.
Though听the听NP has no official听stand yet听on听Aquino鈥檚听impeachment complaints,听the lady senator听noted that the group stills belongs to the administration听coalition.
鈥淗indi pa听sila听nag-uusap听but I would think听鈥榶un听ang听stand听nila. Hindi听ko听pa听alam听kasi听walang听naguusap听du鈥檔听kasi听even the ones who filed听(the complaints) said it will be very difficult,鈥澨齭he said.
(They (members) haven鈥檛 talked yet, but I would think that that is their stand. I still don鈥檛 know because no one鈥檚 talking yet since the ones who filed (the complaints) said it would be very difficult.)
And听as long as the听NP is allied with the administration,听Mrs.听Villar听said the President could听rely on听their group听unless it changes its course.
鈥淥f course every听person听kahit听you belong to a party at may personal decision听ka听,parati听namang听ia-allow听ka听to make your own personal decision. But as a whole,听tingin听ko听naman听they will support the President听pero听syempre听kung may听mga听member kami who feel strongly about certain issues we allow听naman听them to exercise their own prerogative,鈥澨齭he said.
(Of course every person who belongs to a party and still has a personal decision, will still be allowed to make his own personal decision. But as a whole, I think they will support the president, but if we have members who feel strongly about certain issues, we allow them to exercise their own prerogative.)
Three impeachment complaints have been filed against Aquino over the Disbursement Acceleration Program and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.
