MANILA, Philippines–-The impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III might not get the support of the Nacionalista Party (NP), which is still in coalition with the administration,SenatorCynthiaVillarsaid onWednesday.
Villaris the wifeof NP president MannyVillarwhom Aquino beat in the 2010 elections. The group has 25 membersin the House of Representatives andsix in the Senate, includingMrs.Villar.
“I don’tthink the NP will support (the impeachment complaints),”Mrs.Villartold reporters.
ThoughtheNP has no officialstand yetonAquino’simpeachment complaints,the lady senatornoted that the group stills belongs to the administrationcoalition.
“Hindi pasilanag-uusapbut I would think‘yunangstandnila. Hindikopaalamkasiwalangnaguusapdu’nkasieven the ones who filed(the complaints) said it will be very difficult,”she said.
(They (members) haven’t talked yet, but I would think that that is their stand. I still don’t know because no one’s talking yet since the ones who filed (the complaints) said it would be very difficult.)
Andas long as theNP is allied with the administration,Mrs.Villarsaid the President couldrely ontheir groupunless it changes its course.
“Of course everypersonkahityou belong to a party at may personal decisionka,paratinamangia-allowkato make your own personal decision. But as a whole,tinginkonamanthey will support the Presidentperosyemprekung maymgamember kami who feel strongly about certain issues we allownamanthem to exercise their own prerogative,”she said.
(Of course every person who belongs to a party and still has a personal decision, will still be allowed to make his own personal decision. But as a whole, I think they will support the president, but if we have members who feel strongly about certain issues, we allow them to exercise their own prerogative.)
Three impeachment complaints have been filed against Aquino over the Disbursement Acceleration Program and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.
