3 employees hurt in Camarines Sur shooting incident

TINAMBAC, Camarines Sur—Three deputized municipal employees here suffered bullet wounds when they were fired upon by about 10 armed men at a checkpoint in this town Wednesday midnight, police said Thursday.

Tinambac Councilor Jonas Soltes identified the victims as Nicolas San Agustin III, 24; Edgardo San Andres, 45; and Eleno Teope, 35, who were brought to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City for medical attention.

Soltes said the deputized municipal personnel were tasked to look out for illegal products like lumber and other forest products going out of the town in the checkpoint.

Chief Inspector Ciriaco Pacer, Tinambac police chief, said the gunmen chased the three employees who ran to the rice fields in Barangay (village) Bagacay.

The victims suffered bullet wounds on different parts of their bodies but Pacer said the injuries were not fatal.

He said they were able to retrieve about 30 shells of caliber .45 gun.
