MANILA, Philippines — A new steel bridge finished construction in Northern Samar, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Wednesday.
According to a DPWH statement, the bridge’s construction was finished last January and is located in Barangay Central Poblacion, Gamay, Northern Samar.

The new bridge was designed for pedestrians and single motorcycles to replace the deteriorating wooden footbridge previously used by local residents.
“This sturdier bridge allows safer passage across Gamay River, replacing the slippery timber footbridge that posed significant risks, particularly during adverse weather conditions,” said DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon.
The bridge cost P12.83 million to construct, according to the DPWH, and is seen to provide a more efficient route for residents to local facilities such as the market, schools, and other essential services.
